ORAPWD
In windows platform if i am creating password file using oradim then it is working but if i am creating password file using orapwd then is not working, my database name is orcl
i am giving command
C:\>orapwd file=c:\oracle\ora92\database\PWDorcl.ora password=oracle
C:\>sqlplus "sys/oracle as sysdba
SQL*Plus: Release 9.0.1.3.0 - Production on Thu Mar 8 10:11:35 2007

ERROR:
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
Enter user-name: desc v$fixed_tables
SP2-0306: Invalid option.
Usage: CONN[ECT] [logon] [AS {SYSDBA|SYSOPER}]

Shalom,
Review the procedures for properly generating this password.
I think you need to logon as sysdba to do what you are trying to do.
Any reason why this is posted in HP-UX? The windows guys might actually be familiar enough to help more than us.

http://www.adp-gmbh.ch/ora/err/ora_01031.html
check the folder (c:\oracle\ora92\database\) to see whether the file was created. is it the right directory?
