Re: OS upgrade?

If It is production server, you better keep your original disk aside, add fresh disks & install upgraded OS on these disks, this will keep your original data intact & in case you can revert back, also have a list of all application softwareâ s & there licenses, You need to reinstall all these on upgraded system.
Thanks

Re: OS upgrade?

Production server then,

anyway it is better to take backup all the needed data from disk.

Upgrade is risky one always. Try to backup data and system information then fresh install 11.11 os.

Re: OS upgrade?

hi,

recommended is to do a fresh install but if u want to upgrade, follow this:

http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5991-2805/5991-2805.pdf
-> pg 62

also, do a make_tape_recovery before upgrading.

Re: OS upgrade?

Shalom nelenraj,

Universally upgrade-ux is a bad idea that fails a significant percentage of the time. 50% failure rate is not unusual.

Prior to starting:

make_tape_reocvery backup prior to doing any work.

Fresh install recommended from the school of sysadmin hard knocks.

Re: OS upgrade?

I have successfully done this upgrade on various production L Class and rp systems - check firmware levels and patch levels before upgrade. Ensure you have an Ignite recovery tape/CD and complete data backups. Check that you are using matching upgrade manuals and CD sets - one customer site nearly caught me out on that one. The documentation is pretty good but as always - assume S*Ds law - "something will always go wrong" and the corollary - "Allow twice the time you think it will take"
