overwrite the DDS tape
Dear All,
HI,
I have 2 server A and B ,and i am try to do a backup for some huge directories in both of them , and when I am reach volume 7 from server B which is the last tape . I but it by mistake in server A and overwrite it so what I have to do in server B ? should I have to do the backup from beginning or is there any solution so that I can write the 7th tape only ?
Kind Regards,

Re: overwrite the DDS tape
What type of backup are you doing, tar, cpio...or anyother utility?
say if its a fbackup and you keep index of what you write to tapes and compare them with old one then see whats in the last tape...you probably might find it out...
BUT dont take the risk.
Be always sure with you'r backups because you never know when you might need it and if it doesn't work you are in deep trouble.
If i was at you'r place though it takes extra time for me but i'll do entire backup again so that i can have a nice sleep.
