Patch Bundle Question ...

Excuse me for asking a stupid question, but I haven't touch hpux for over 3 years. I'm trying to install ssh for hpux, on the site there's a prerequisite for hpux11i regarding the installation of ssh:

"OS" "Release Date" "Release Number" "HP Part Number"
"HP-UX 11i *required" "December 2001" "SP-0112" "5012-0015"

Does any one know what patch bundle correlate to "5012-0015" and where can I download it? Thanks.

Re: Patch Bundle Question ...

Hi,

Not a stupid question at all,

My advice is to download and install ssh depot from hp. Link is below.

http://www.software.hp.com/cgi-bin/swdepot_parser.cgi/cgi/displayProductInfo.pl?productNumber=T1471AA

The latest support plus depot can be found at.

Hope it helps,

Robert-Jan.

Re: Patch Bundle Question ...

"5012-0015" is the Support Plus patch bundle released on December 2001. Since this is an old one, you won't be able to download this now. Instead, you can load the latest patch bundle from here, which is actually a supercede of the old bundles:

Support Plus release history:

Dec, 2001 release details (which includes 5012-0015):

Re: Patch Bundle Question ...

Hi:

SInce patches are cumulative, I'd get and load the current Support Plus bundle. The current 11.11 Support Plus bundle is June 2003, part number 5012-7830. It can be downloaded or ordered by going to Maintenance and Support -> Patching [Standard Patch Budles]. You can also view its contents by choosing the "View Support Plus Releases" link there.

Regards!

Re: Patch Bundle Question ...

OK, this looks promising. My next question is, how do I search for patch with "HP Part Number" of 5012-0015. Should I be concerned about this since according to docs it's required. If so, should I be installing the latest patch bundle? Thanks.

Re: Patch Bundle Question ...

To search a particular patch bundle:

http://us-support.external.hp.com/common/bin/doc.pl/screen=commonExtensionSW/sid=cd3f85ae08afe52347

Since your bundle is old, you won't get the information from there. All you have to do is load the latest one from the link given above.

Re: Patch Bundle Question ...

The 4x4 or 5x5 part number refers to the CD and not to a single patch. Patch bundles are typically patch 'levels' although it gets a bit muddy when a particular level is installed and then piecemeal patching takes place afterwards. The SupportPlus CDROM content is online and can be downloaded. There are two patch bundles: The Gold Quality Pack (QPK) and the HardWare Enablement (HWE). Load the HWE package first as it is smaller and will only add patches that pertain to your current platform.

The QPK bundle will take a while (less than an hour on a 500Mhz machine) and should be done without any applications running and no users logged in. Like HWE patches, only those that apply will be added, along with any dependencies. Anything more than one year old is obsolete. Application vendors often publish patch information that is VERY outdated and confusing.
