patch program

I have heard that there is a program that will scan my system and tell me what patches I should install...Does anybody know what it is called and where I can get it from? Thank you

Re: patch program

HP came out with special programs for Y2K which scan your system and check for OS patches (y2koscheck) and one to check for applications (y2kappcheck).

For HP-UX 11 there is also a command called /usr/contrib/bin/check_patches which checks your system for common problems and issues.

Re: patch program

Hi,

you can do this only if you have a support contract.
Then whithin Maintenance/Support under Assessment / Optimization you can download a script which examines your system(s) and writes a file which you have to upload to HP.
Put you the entry side at attachment.

Re: patch program

check_patches only checks for patches basically not installed or configured correctly. It doenst list patches you should install.

The vast majority of HP's customers install the quarterly General Release patch bundle which will fix all known issues with the OS (but not applications or 3rd party apps). I recommend you do the same. You can download it right from the ITRC or request it on CD.

Re: patch program

Be careful don't install all the patches that it recommends I had to reinstall an entire machine after doing this. The best is to use the support plus CD's and only use this to get a basic idea of where you are in terms of patches.
Minimum effort maximum output!
