Paths changing themselves???

Hi,

Heres my configuration;
2 RP8420's running 11.i (latest and greatest patch bundles)
1 hitachi san storage

They're new and when I created the LVM structures I alternated the primairy paths . for exemple, 1 vg has its primairy paths going through c13txdx and the next vg is going through c14txdx. However, a week (and a few reboots) later, we have everything going through c13txdx. ioscan shows all is CLAIMED and i can use vgreduce to put them back. but what could have caused them to all align along c13txdx?

Re: Paths changing themselves???

Do you have some sort of load-balancing software? SecureManager (AutoPath) does a great job from my experience in load-balancing, and in actual tests I've seen a greater than 80% performance bump from it.

Re: Paths changing themselves???

Hi,
This may happen when something goes wrong with either your san switch or during an microcode updgrade of the HDS system.
It could also be one of your HBAs that is faulty, so check with fcmsutil...

Re: Paths changing themselves???

no Secure Path or Autopath installed.
fcmsutil shows nothing abnormal, both cards are ONLINE in fcmsutil and CLAIMED in a ioscan.
The weirdest is that there are several Vpars one these boxes, 1 has changed and 1 hasnt. still poking around, ill paste anything else usefull i find.

Re: Paths changing themselves???

Richard - are you sure no-one has done a vgexport/vgimport (or a vgscan) of the VGs in question? That would certainly result in the sort of config your are talking about...

Re: Paths changing themselves???

Usually when path changes, it is logged in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log did you have a look?
