pfs_mount help
I've been trying to install CiscoWorks2000 on HP-UX 11.0 using pfs_mount. Unfortunately, I've been unsuccessful.
Since I'm very new at this. Is there a standard setup similar to the setup of nfs?
I tried the following procedure:
A. Perform these steps on the local system:
1. nohup /usr/sbin/pfs_mountd &
2. nohup /usr/sbin/pfsd &
3. Add the filesystem to /etc/pfs_fstab
4. Add the filesystem to /etc/pfs_exports
5. pfs_exportfs -a
6. pfs_mount /cdrom
B. Perform these steps on the remote system:
1. nohup /usr/sbin/pfs_mountd &
2. nohup /usr/sbin/pfsd &
3. pfs_mount -o xlat=unix server hostname:/cdrom /cdrom(local mountpoint)
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanx!
Vince

Re: pfs_mount help
I had problems with pfs_mount until I created an empty
directory at the mount point - give that a try and repost
what is going wrong.

Re: pfs_mount help
The problem that I'm getting is:
'pfs_mount: giving up on /cdrom'
I did create an empty mountpoint call /cdrom.
Chris,
I will try the procedure.
Thanx!

Re: pfs_mount help
Try mounting it on another mount point , like /SD_CDROM.
Can you eject the CD now ?
Also long time back there were problems when root would belong to more than 8 groups , using pfs_mount would result in "not the owner ...."

Re: pfs_mount help
We do have the latest patch PHCO_15453.
Vikas,
Tried it and still the same problem.
Chris,
Tried the procedure and still the same problem.
Though we're still trying to figure out the problem, I just would like let you all know that I appreciate everyone's help.
Thanx again!

Re: pfs_mount help
for an ISO 96... from this directory you will have UPPERCASES;1 file name listed.
start your install by typing /mountdir/INSTALL;1 and your installation will start
I had the same kind of problems in Domino installation.
Wish it will be helpfull.

Re: pfs_mount help
I use pfs_mount frequently. I wrote script to start/stop the pfs deamons upon bootup using:
/usr/bin/nohup /usr/sbin/pfs_mount &
/usr/bin/nohup /usr/sbin/pfsd &
These "deamons" should start others deamons:
pfs_mounted.rpc
pfsd.rpc
You can check to see if they are running by using:
ps -e | grep 'pfs.*' ( should see 4 lines of
response )
Initially I did get the same error message, however it appeared to be that I chose the wrong device controller for the cdrom. I didn't make any entries pfs_fstab or pfs_exports. Didn't find it necessary. Instead I used:
pfs_mount -v -x no_version /dev/dsk/
Where
I did find problems with unmounting and occasionaly mounting if I was too hasty mounting the command. I placed the cdrom into the drive and waited for the drive to recognize the disk, then use pfs_mount. This may be a silly co-incidence but I had troubles removing the disk If I didn't do this.
Hope this helps
Gerhard

Re: pfs_mount help
Let me try to get what happened: I guess, you can pfs_mount the /cdrom in the first host. OK. If, yes, try to simlpy mount remote the /cdrom without any other pfs_mount. That means, if you succesfully mount(pfs) in the first box, exported and in the remote server do just: mount hostname:/cdrom/cdrom (do not run any pfs mount command).Any better?

systemb: mount systema:/cdrom /cdrom.
