PHNE_26771 patch installation problems.

Hi guys and gals,
I'm trying to install PHNE_26771. Swinstall worked fine, but out of the bundle two patches weren't installed. PHCO_23791 and PHNE_25771 were the culprits. I've checked the logs and it doesn't give a massive indication (just said 14 of 18 filesets to be installed). No superseeding patches are installed on the server. Any ideas? I may well just need to mark and try and reinstall these patches, but not overly keen on downtime without any idea of what has occured.

Thanks

Re: PHNE_26771 patch installation problems.

Youve got to check the swagent.log, this will give the EXACT reason why the patches (or some of their filesets) couldnt be installed.

Bit difficult without seeing your swagent log. Have you had a look at the logs unde /var/adm/sw?

Re: PHNE_26771 patch installation problems.

Hi,

I can imagine that some parts of the patch have already been installed by another patch, or that they are just not applicable for you. They will be skipped then.
After the installation you'll need to look closely if all (14) filesets finaly are installed.

so there is a difference in the analyze process and the final install. As long as the analyzed filesets are installed correct, I would worry that match. Your log would also give the explanation why 4 the Filesets were skipped.

Re: PHNE_26771 patch installation problems.

By the way: PHCO_23791 is a cumulative LVM patch, and has been superceded by PHCO_24437, which you might already have installed.

I find no reference to PHNE_25771: can you verify that Patch ID?

Re: PHNE_26771 patch installation problems.

Sorry, typo, it should read PHNE_26771.

I've read the swagent.log (cheers guys) and it looks like a number of filesets have been superseeded. But the HP website doesn't suggest a superseed patch for PHNE_26771. Presume I should trust my box rather than HP website?
I did see that PHCO_23791 had been superseeded, but the superseeding patch wasn't on my server.

Re: PHNE_26771 patch installation problems.

Patch PHNE_26771 replaced by PHNE_28538.

Trust both.

The reason PHNE_28538 was not suggested is that it has a patch warning.

Re: PHNE_26771 patch installation problems.

Richard,

I would really like to see the relevant portions of your swagent log regarding both PHNE_26771 and PHCO_23791. There should be something like this:

"NOTE: The fileset "PHKL_23400.CORE2-KRN,r=1.0" is already installed.
If you wish to reinstall this fileset, change the "reinstall"
option to "true"."

-or this -

"ERROR: The dependencies for fileset
"Flash-Plugin.FLASH-PLUGIN,r=B.11.00.01" cannot be resolved
(see previous lines).
You must resolve the above dependencies before operating on
this fileset or change the "enforce_dependencies" option to
"false"."

- or something similar if they had been superceded. There has to be an exact reason and it has to be explained in the swagent log (/var/adm/sw/swagent.log).
