Re: Please Post Forums Issues - January 2005
the symbol for the magical answer Message with a response that solved the author's question.
the symbol is coming even if the question is closed without assigning points .
i think symbol should appear if 8 or more points are assigned to the answer,so that others can refer to the status of question.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - January 2005
In december's issues thread, an idea was launched that I found really good and which could be of great help on the old post closing coming to top.
The idea was to consider closing as a stop in the point assignments.
Purpose was to avoid frustration many of us have when someone close his thread and we know answer he has is bad (worst is when we know that we gave this bad answer). A closed thread would be a thread were no more points would be assign to knew answers. Original poster could always re-open thread to assign points to a newly posted better answer.
For the "comming on top" problem, I would then suggest that inactive threads for one month would be automatically closed without coming to top. That would avoid those people making cleanup in their profile and sending their durt in the forum.
One other point I will defend here is that closing a thread must offer possibility to affect the bunny. Bunny in front of a thread indicates that it contains a solution for the problem. So, if the closer explain what solution he found that makes him close the thread, he must set a bunny, for others to see this solution.
Regards,
Fred

Simple.
Efficient.
So much time we waste thinking, when solution is nearby... Thanks Pete :)

New one though, Procura did his wonderful job again this month with the January stats. I don't think it was intentional that he called it the "Januari" stats though.
Merijn being Dutch, consider it as a first lesson in Dutch language :-)
Another Dutchie
Proost.

If there was a new hat for 50,000+ what would it be?
A halo perhaps?
Just a Friday thought really.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - January 2005
If you'll look at the current icons, they tend to be either non-controversial/common-place (ballcap, mortar-board), medieval (wizard's hat, crown), or ancient/mythological (pharaoh's nemes, olympian's wreath). Any future icon will have to be as generically acceptable, yet indicate an increase in status over the current ones. Frankly, I don't see one - I think HP never expected that things would grow to this point and they painted themselves into a corner.
Therefore, I suggest that they start adding little stars under the wreath: a wreath with one star would indicate double-Olympian, two stars equals triple Olympian, etc. It's simple, straightforward, non-offensive, meaningful - what's not to like?
It must be Friday ;^)

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - January 2005
The ultimate goal of the Bene Gesserit, up to the novel Dune, is the creation of the Kwisatz Haderach, a male Bene Gesserit. This is a being achieved through a massive human breeding program, which the Sisterhood has conducted for countless generations; using careful manipulations of relationships and people in general, the Bene Gesserit have controlled bloodlines through the ages. The Kwisatz Haderach, with access to both male and female lines in Other Memory, will be an overt figure in the Bene Gesserit's manipulations, thrust upon the universe as the Messiah.
Maybe use a "sandworm" as a hat - or the crest or flag of "House Atreides"...

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - January 2005
The first "wreath" should be "halo" - the last "halo" should be "wreath": "stars under wreaths".
Thanks,
Pete

is a good idea. We've got an LVM section, there probably should be a VxVM section as well.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - January 2005
I agree about not popping newly-closed threads to the top of the list. If it's possible to *respond* to a thread, great, send it up, but it's kind of frustrating seeing something appear to which you can't reply. ;-)

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - January 2005
Pete's hat idea. I endorse it(means i owe him a beer). Probably a pain to program though.
Bunny w/o bunny points. Its on the enhancement list. The process was broke on that issue because it didn't include the users. This is something HP should think about, getting us involved with a reality check on ideas.
VxVM - good idea, I endorse it.
Search engine - I thinks its only a few lines of html for someone outside hp to try to use google or another search engine to do internal searches. I'm thinking about trying it to see if one of the outside engines that indexes itrc produces better results.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - January 2005
I kinda like Geoff's idea of 'borrowing' from SF.
It would open up a whole new realm of choices.
After some Dune choices, there is eg.
Douglas Adams with the 'Hitchkiker' series.
Some nice pickings available!
And then, how about the Arthur Clarke 'Rama' series. Especially books III & IV offer some option.
I think 'The Eagle' should be the Ultimate Utmost:
Appointed to supervise the Big Bang, and then follow developments of "Intelligent Life' through the eons....
fwiw, just some building upon someone else's ideas...
Proost.
Have one on me.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - January 2005
An issue with the user thread moved to a different / incorrect category,
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=785236
If it should be moved, it should have moved to the servers/9000 category.
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/categoryhome.do?categoryId=191
Thanks
