Re: Please Post Forums Issues - July 2005

Hi Cheryl & Dan,

The changes seems to be very nice for improving the response of the forums. Also the mail notifications which were badly sufferring for last few days have improved dramitically. Congrats to all the members who contributed towards this updradation.

Thanks & Regards,

Cheryl,
what does ITRC change?
I see 1-star and 2-star degree; I believe it's not unique upgrade.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - July 2005

Since the maintainance thread has been closed already, I'm (ab)using this one.

Forum address (style) has changed a little: forums1 => forums2 and ^familyId=117 => &familyID=117$, so I just *hope* my stats will keep running without too much change.

I had to change my proxy to get back my european dates, and loose the advertisement blocks (I know them by now)

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - July 2005

Ouch. many more (small) changes.
Singe ID data fetch is back in working order. No time to check the complete fetch again right now. Lets see what Wednesday brings us.

If it works again, I'll update the scripts on my site

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - July 2005

I have noticed that besides headgear(thanks) the retrieval of user profiles is much faster.

Good show on the upgrade, thanks for making sure it was well tested prior to rollout.

Any news on bunny w/o points?

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - July 2005

Hi all,

thanks for every improvement.
I noticed the new head gears for the super olympians. ;-)
However what is the sequence the forums are sorted in the profile?
I can not make out any specific sorting!

thanks,

Michael

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - July 2005

Hi Moderators,

Let's see if this is better:

Please change the title of this thread (http://forums2.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=938556) to correct Steven's name:

"New hats for A. Clay Stephenson and Stefan E. Protter !!!"

to

"New hats for A. Clay Stephenson and Steven E. Protter !!!"

PS: I hope Volkmar won't mind

Best Regards,

Eric Antunes

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - July 2005

Hi Moderators,

I'm able to see my profile from a response in any thread, like this:

http://forums2.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/publicProfile.do?userId=BR727878&forumId=1

But I can't see/edit it directly from the menu on the left side of ITRC page:

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - July 2005

Now here's an odd one:

http://forums2.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=938698

The author closed the thread, yet Patrick was able to respond - AND his response ended up with the "closed by author" tag on it as well!!

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - July 2005

Pete - I think this feature is also from one of few after changes which have been made recently. I cross checked & found that I also could reply to any other closed thread, but while replying got a notification that the thread is allready closed & will not be eligible for points.

This was posted by some HP moderator in a thread few months back that the forum changes will include this. This I think is a better option because we can ping to closed threads as well if required.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - July 2005

Eric -
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/EditProfile is back in business.

Pete -
It's a new feature. Everyone complained that a thread was closed and they could no longer reply - what if the author didn't realize his question wasn't really answered? So now you can keep posting to it even though it's closed. But the extra replies don't count against the author. Any extra replies aren't eligible for points either.

I will update this thread with a list of enhancements that were rolled in. Very soon.....

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - July 2005

Cheryl,

I figured that it must be a new (and oft-requested) feature and I think it's a good one, but it sure seems odd to have the "thread closed by author" message on Patrick's response. It would make more sense to have a "posted after closure - no points" message attached to subsequent responses!

(some people are just never satisfied, are they?)

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - July 2005

There is a problem with the formatting code - sometimes a line break is inserted. See the last paragraph of my (first) response in this thread:

http://forums2.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=938709
.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - July 2005

Uwe -
I am not seeing the line break problem. I will email you shortly to gather more details.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - July 2005

Cheryl,

I think what Uwe was referring to CSS formatting totally went awol on the forums. Everything displays in Times New Roman fonts which are larger in size, causing premature line breaks along with other disturbances to the eye.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - July 2005

I'm noticing something odd with links. In both IE and Konquerer, if a link is inline (i.e. http://www.hp.com ), it appears as if the link isn't closing at the end of the URL properly, and the remaining message is part of the link (the HTML looks ok though, kinda weird).

BUt URL's that are on a line by them selves are ok:

http://www.hp.com

Both Cheryl's and an earlier post by Eric show this trait in this thread.. this post is somewhat of a test to try re-produce it on purpose..

Ah, yes. That looks like the problem. I can see it in Mozilla and Internet Explorer. I'll attach a screen shot - just in case.

Re: Please Post Forums Issues - July 2005

Thank you Mel - for the clarification. I've seen the page lose the CSS but usually a refresh or opening a new browser window, or visiting another hp page will bring it back.

Stuart & Uwe, Thanks for catching the format issues. I'll keep you posted on them being addressed.

Here is the list of forum changes as promised. These are the major features encorporated into this release:
* performance improvements
* updated for online help, contact hp, site map
* closed thread no longer bump to the top
* closed threads can be replied to but replies do not require points
* URLs like https and ftp are recognized within posts
* new hats
* new scrolling message of the day
