It is a New Year and hopefully everyone is off to the right start!
Please continue to submit your highlights and successes you have had while using the Forums. Your feedback helps convey the positive influences the forums have had on your IT life. For example, have you:
1. Posted a question and received a key answer that solved your problem?
2. Have you viewed a message thread that had a solution to a problem you were trying to solve?
3. Found the Forums to be of particular help in sharing information, exchanging best practices, or saving you time?
I'd really like to hear from everyone -- your circumstances, the issues, the outcome, who was of help, time saved, etc.! If you have examples to share, please provide the URL of the thread if possible.
Thanks in advance for your input!
Best Regards,
Dan Gazzaniga

SolutionHere is a thank you I sent to Gary asupport tech at HP biz support who got me headed in the right direction yesterday. He saved the day for me. Thanks a bunch for helping an out of warrantly printer owner.....that is the kind of customer service we should all strive for.
Karen
Gary,
Due to all kinds of stuff on my computer, I could not respond back through
your website to thank you for the great support I got back today for a
search i did on a "mech ss out of limits" error message that has been
killing me on my HP 2500 C+ printer. Within minutes of putting the message
into your search engine at ww.hp.com/bizsupport i recieved a message that
you had sent to another person named Karen back on Oct. 24, 2003 sending
her to the string of conversation at
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/parseCurl.do?CURL=%2Fcm%2FQuestion
Answer%2F1%2C%2C0x20511012aa92d5118ff10090279cd0f9%2C00.html&admit=716493758
+1067005332188+28353475.
I went there and found the step by step solution to my problem buried in
the conversation. Thanks so much for your help on a very bleak day when I
was beginning to think that there was no hope and the whole computerized
world was involved in an evil plot to make me buy a new machine. It's folks
like you who make the world go round!
Kare

Re: Please Post Your Forums Successes - January 2004
I have posted a question about my HP LaserJet 4M Plus printer about is fuser unit and I have found the members here help me find the problem with it and I have learnt alot of how to service this model of LaserJet.
I have found before posting a question I look in other mesages and I found it very interesting.
I have found these forums very helpful with infomation, support and pratical advice, with using these forums I have learnt alot about printer repair.
Thank you Dan for providing a forum that supports users and techs of your products.
And my personal experience with your products has been very pleasent and enjoyable.
My hightlights of using your products is quality of printouts of my LaserJet 4M Plus and DeskJet 5550 and photos of my photosmart 320 camera and scanned images of my ScanJet 3570C
I have purchased these following products brand new:

This is the products I purchased secondhand:
HP LaserJet 4M Plus

I enjoy my purchase and use of these products that I have purchased.

Re: Please Post Your Forums Successes - January 2004
This forum is incredible. I have been involved in the usage of HP technologies for more than 2 years.
While providing solution, there is great amount of learning + encouragement. During following thread picked a lot on PL/SQL.
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=390526
There are so many daily postings which makes a learning a continuous highway.
Plus a lot of motivation to get certification on HP-UX.
Keep going and all the best.
sks

Re: Please Post Your Forums Successes - January 2004
Made a post with reagards to the mail relay and formscripts and Chris Caldwell(owes him a rabbit) suggested an google search that found me the code I needed to make the cgi scripts work the way they are supposed to.
Validate the sender, validate the domain the mail is coming from. Good stuff.
Due to other issues I decided to get to a long delayed project called project black whole.
My little NSP has three machines all acting as firewalls that take over service from one and other. Two were Linux, one is my educationl HP-9000 server.
The nail that sticks up gets hammered. The machine that answers pings attracts attention. The first thing most hackers like to do is ping the box to see if its there. Timie to turn my shop into a black hole.
Getting the iptables settings to drop icmp pacekets was a single itrc search to get the example.
Getting the ipfilter statement to stop answering pings was also a single itrc search:
http://tinyurl.com/2w5gt
Here are the hostnames:
dns1.investmenttool.com
dns2.investmenttool.com
dns3.investmenttool.com
Feel free to ping them. They won't be answering.
No points please, just wanted to tell a little story about how itrc made my life easier.
