Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Successes - April 2002!

James, exactly to the point. I've been asking for those other dates too, but they are not in the profiles. I'm 14 Oct 1997, but my first post was 26 Feb 2002 17:05. I'd prefer to use that second date over the first one in my overview, but I don't have it.

I also want to include , which I have neither

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Successes - April 2002!

The point system started in May of 2000.
See: http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x0e8fe8644a22d411ade70090279cd0f9,00.html

Prior to that, replies were evaluated by HP for relavence and on a monthly basis, starting in Oct 1999, an 'All-Star' was selected.

I had used the ITRC since April 1997 like my profile states for searching manuals and tech documents and for opening/reviewing case calls with HP. When I started a new job in Oct 1999, I noticied for the first time the forums.

I don't think they started too long before then. Maybe Dan could get in touch with Shane to find out exactly when they started.

Nothing much in this week.
Yes, great success to my question about assigning points. Lots of folks have assigned points to replies and assgning points procedure has been improved to some extent.

Thanks to all. and wish all will repeat the same in future.

Warning, lists listed here are well formatted in reality, only included for example

I've got the basics for the weekly statistics the way I want it. Very little web access, and a *complete* list of members. At the moments, there are 20429 registered members, of which 3678 have gathered points. Next top-200 will be available next wednesday (I think)

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Successes - April 2002!

Procura: great stuff, interesting to see this listed. I will plan to post each month the points ranking.

Robert: you are right on...the ITRC Forums became available in October of 1999! Great memory!

Bill: awesome thread and comments from user Mr. Knapp! Thanks for the pointer!

Jim: thanks for clarifying for all...the "member since" date in user profiles refers to the date since registering with the ITRC, not necessarily first date of forums activity.

Best to all,
Dan

Dan, now that I've worked out the 'complete list', the bandwidth, and the bunny problems, can you tell if 'date first post' is available anywhere? Please?

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Successes - April 2002!

Hi Procura, here's the deal on the "member since" date. The date represents the day a user registered with the ITRC. The registration function is ITRC-wide...in other words, you can register within any service of the ITRC. Hence, there is no *forums-specific* registration date. However, there may be a way to search on first post date (would require filtering on all forums messages!). So, nothing clear cut, I'm sorry.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Successes - April 2002!

Dan,

I haven't done any research into this topic, but I have never seen any user here with so many questions:

This member has assigned points to 1467 of 1580 responses to his/her questions.

1580 questions! Now Richard should be an expert now :-)

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Successes - April 2002!

Hi Dan, et al.

There's another accolade for this Forum in the post below. More importantly, however, there is a *lesson* from its author. The author notes that had he known what keywords (terms) to use in a search, he might have been able to do so, without posting "the question [that] has been asked many time before". It's worth our consideration...

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Successes - April 2002!

Hi All:

With regard to the "statistics" associated with a user's profile, I have noted another mis-understanding twice. The post above, suggesting that Richard has posed "1580 questions!" is erroneous. The profile for any user reads, "This member has assigned points to [X] of [Y] RESPONSES to his/her questions". Note the emphasis on the word "responses".

A better estimate of the number of QUESTIONS can be derived by using Steven Leong's engine. Remember that Steven's analysis is confined to the HP-UX family and roots itself at January 1, 2001. Too, Steven's engine does not tally "N/A" items whereas the ITRC *does* count these as a "response".

First of all thanks to all 'forum members' for their excellent support every day.
I know that I can count on you guys any time. Recently I had some problems during the apache webserver installation and no one (not even some of the senior admin.) could help me with it. Finally I decided to place it on forum and there you go. I got the solution within 4 minuts from Harry D. Brown Jr. (in 4 MINUTS that is amazing).
Here is the link to that thread.

The headers show Asign and Answr, obvious (at least for me) enough to not mean Asigned and Questions. If you have a suggestion for better headers, I'm all open to it.

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Successes - April 2002!

Hm,

I was pretty certain to posted "preliminary" statistics on 30th April short to midnight, but it seems to have vanished...
Anyway, as long as the "j" and "m" member pages are too big in size to be retrievable (SSI errors), the *real* statistics have to wait even longer :-(

Sorry,

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Successes - April 2002!

Hi All,

Thanks for the excellent feedback -- great stories from all!

JRF, thanks for clarifying for others what the user date refers to -- we'll get this updated to reflect when users joined the ITRC overall, not just the forums. Also, regarding search keywords, perhaps a list should be available. I can have it pointed to from the home page...ideally, from the search page (not sure if that can happen).

Mahima and Trever - great examples of the speed and quality of responses one receives from the forums!

Wodisch and procura, I'll get a new thread started for posting your stats....I might post some of my own! Please standby.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Successes - April 2002!

Dan,

Here's a success story of the "small world variety" for you: while browsing Harry D. Brown Jr.'s "Montreal creames Boston's pie" post, I was inspired to pursue just where he was from. Turns out we have the same home town. If we hadn't been 11 years apart we definitely would have known each other because there's only a little over 5000 residents.

The forums are good for meeting people and making friends, too.

Re: Please Post Your ITRC Forums Successes - April 2002!

Ok, for those of you right above this note...

I don't want to rain on your parade, however, I think we need to maintain the mission of these forums as a place for sharing knowledge, best practices and tips.

I know a lot of the dialogue is all in fun, but I'd hate to see these forums, built on professonalism and peer respect, go the way of mere chat rooms. Again, I appreciate the camaraderie, and liken it to teamwork. I've just seen more of this occurring lately. Lets just be careful about the path down which we take these forums.

Best Regards,
Dan
