Potential
Thanks.
Is the market big or small for the HP-UX OS?
Is this OS Popular, and with who?
Is it widely used, Why or why not?
Is is a specialty OS?
Thank you for your help!

Re: Potential
for your entire project!
I use HP-UX in a telecom environment, because of reliability of h/w and s/w, open-ness in terms of peripherals storage standards, competetive pricing, future scalable hardware... and most importantly, because I've been working with it whether I like to or not for the last 7 years! Before that I was using DECs but it was too long ago to compare.
Later,
Bill

Re: Potential
Is this OS Popular, and with who? Popular. With everybody. Because it is based on rock solid hardware and a reliable, stable version of Unix.
Is it widely used, Why or why not? Widely used. We have equal numbers of Sun and HPUX boxes in our shop.
Is is a specialty OS? Nope, It is a flavor of Unix just like Sun Solaris, IBM AIX, Linux, or all the rest of them.
Go check the annual reports for Sun, IBM and HP, then go check some of the estimates of market share for Solaris, AIX and HPUX. This will tell you how popular they are.

Re: Potential
>>Is the market big or small for the HP-UX OS?
I would say that hp-ux is taking a great part of the market just after IBM AIX. So it's really BIG.
>>Is this OS Popular, and with who?
Unix world in general is derived from two architectures SVR4 or BSD ( They only different from each other from some C functions calls used in advanced C programming in the unix programming ). Each constructor add some individual commands based on the SVR4 or BSD architectures.
Conclusion, anyway whatever you may learn in hp-ux you will gonna find a similar issue on other Unix platform ( but I preffer hp-ux !).
>>Is it widely used, Why or why not?
Alot of Universities, Public sectors, small, little and great Companies are using it.
HP has( and still !) equiped it's unix ( based on BSD ) by up to date tecnologies which allow it to be one of the world leader in it's area.
HP also Surround it's hp-ux OS by alot of powerful tools ( experienced and needed in the market )to bring to the costumer what he is needing for.
Just have a look at the main page of IT professionel to see all integrated subjects which touch the hp-ux and complete it from a more abstract point of view.
