predictive

I have just installed a new Multi-Tech ZDX external modem and the HP Engineer told me to remove the current external modem using sam.

Now, PREDICTIVE does not work at all and I hard booted the system. I have have looked at psconfig and I get this error whenever the modem dials out:

Re: predictive

Hi
The Predictive software cannot find the modem to dial out.
When you removed the modem in SAM did you add the new modem? and if so what is the device file for it?

The Predictive software will need to know about the new modem to dial out on so start /opt/pred/bin/psconfig
When the menu starts select 4, 2 and 9 (setup modem port) This will tell you the current config.
Change this to your new modem port settings.

Re: predictive

Jade,

If I remember correctly, the ps_1432 refers to the internal modem for the D and K class servers. The external modem used by HP for those servers is (I think) the ps_1932. As I recall, Predictive doesn't use SAM to setup the modem port. So I don't see how using SAM can affect Predictive that way unless SAM removed the uugetty from /etc/inittab. If you have a K class (as I suspect) there is an internal modem (the ps_1432) and an external port (db25 connector). If you have always been using the external port, than I would follow Jame's suggestion. If you moved your modem from the internal port to the external port than go into your console mode (^b) and type CA. This is where you can enable the external port for modem usage. It is an either/or situation. Either you are going to use the internal modem port, or the external, but not both. I believe both ports use the same hardware path designators so the device drivers should work in either case.

The last point I would like to make is, that it is my understanding the HP supplies the Predictive modem and you shouldn't have to. Which means if all else fails, call your local HP CE to come out and fix the problem but don't expect them to go any further than getting Predictive to function. If you are trying to use the same modem port for dial-in capability for your own business, HP does not support this. The recommendation from HP is to get a MUX or DTC or some other dial-in method. This prevents HP from having to support myriads of modem connection types for Predictive. As you can see, it can be broken.
