Primary boot disk failed

Hi

In my server the primary boot disk failed.
The disk is showing no_hw in status.
It is an h/s drive and mirrored to a disk on a different interface card.

Now , since the disk is in no_hw state I am going to replec the disk as it is ( not redusing mirrors).
After replacing the disk I will perform a vgcfgrestore to the disk. Will that reserve BDRA and lif volume. Or do i need to initilise thes disk with pvcreate -B command ?

Please advise.
Thanks

Re: Primary boot disk failed

Hi,

all you need to know is here:

http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-1236/When_Good_Disks_Go_Bad.pdf

If your patch level is current, you only need to deactivate the LVM access (pvchange -a n ...), restore the config and activate the PV again.
Don't forget to restore the boot area (mkboot ...).

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Primary boot disk failed

BTW, there are 2 completely different procedures, depending on your type of system (PA-RISC or Integrity).

You need to know this type and follow the appropriate procedure in the manual.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
