Printer config has typeset too large

Our system administrator had a problem last week and had to delete and re-add all of the printer definitions. There are some anomalies showing up now. Naturally, he's out this week and I'm filling in.

We have an okidata printer defined as a dumb plotter printer to print checks. The user says the font is too big. We're on UX 11.0. I've attached the printer script. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Scott Williams

Re: Printer config has typeset too large

have you tried the net_genericplotter and net_genericprinter model scripts?

You may want to use the lpmgr command to restore the spooler configuration to a normal state.

/usr/sam/lbin/lpmgr ???S
/usr/sam/lbin/lpmgr ???R

Re: Printer config has typeset too large

Paul,

I'm afraid I'm a bit green in the admin arena...What I usually do to set up a printer like this is to use hppi to add the printer (not really worrying about the type too much), then, go to /var/spool/lp/interface/model.orig/. I find a similar printer in the hosts file and then copy that script, overlaying the script that was just created. Then customize as needed. Since this is a dumb printer, there's not much (if anything) to modify.

Anthony,

There are only a few printers that are having problems. Since he had to re-create the script customizations, I think the problem is related to that.

Re: Printer config has typeset too large

Scott,

Since the dumb printer script dumps data directly to the printer without any printer setup, I might guess that those printers that are having the problem have the font set at the printer itself.

Did you try a printer reset, or reconfigure the font on the printer setup.

You are correct. I'm persuing this line right now. Thanks for your input!

Re: Printer config has typeset too large

Rodney,

Just wanted to let you know that you were right -- this was entirely a setup issue at the printer itself. The user changed the setup, and it works fine now.

Thanks for your help.
