Printer disabled after reboot

Hi
I have a printer that is disabled after rebooting. How do I set it to be enabled after rebooting? I am using LP spooler.
Sorry if I'm not clear as I'm not firmiliar with printing under HP-UX

Re: Printer disabled after reboot

hi,

lpsched to start the scheduler
lpstat to get the status of the scheduler and printers
lpshut to shut the scheduler

enable prinername to enable the printer
disable to disable it.

IS the printer switched on or acessible before the printing scheduler is started???

with best wishes

Re: Printer disabled after reboot

Hi Kenny,

Could you check the permissions of next files ?

/etc/hosts
/etc/nsswitch.conf
/etc/resolv.conf

They should be 555.

Re: Printer disabled after reboot

Hi,

The enable command is ofcourse present to enable the printer but if the printer is disabled aotomatically then probably the device associated with it is given as a login terminal.

What I meanis while creating the printer lpadmin -l option must have been used.

Hope this helps

Re: Printer disabled after reboot

Hi Robert,
I have set /etc/hosts to 555. I will try during the next reboot

Hi Manish
What is a login terminal for printers?

Hi,

Is your device a LAN printer? Try to ensure that this name device are reachable from your host (i.e: ping )

I think that Robert-Jan's suggestion aim to this point.

Re: Printer disabled after reboot

Hi,

What I mean is that the device to which the printer prints the job is a login terminal. Just have a look at man lpadmin -l option.

Do an lpstat -p and check whether it is a login terminal.
Such a printer can be created as:

lpadmin -pprinter -v/dev/null -mdumb -l

Re: Printer disabled after reboot

Is lpsched running after you reboot? This daemon must be enabled in the /etc/rc.config.d/lp file. The variable LP must be set to 1 (LP=1) in order to start the spooler on a reboot. Since this is the default for a standard install of HP-UX, someone may have turned off the spooler.

Re: Printer disabled after reboot

I faced the same problem some time back, check for the lpstat -t it'll show you the detailed information about the printer status, still if the printer is accepting the request and the printer is enabled.
Try removing the LPSHEDLOCK file and restart the lp schedular "lpsched" the LPSCHEDLOCK will again created after lpsched.
Best Of Luck !
