printer on network

Hi,
Just have a problem here I have a HP4000N printer on my HP-UX network. The printer has replaced an old HP laserjet 2. I have configured the printer to go through a switch using JetDirect (for some reason it would not go through the old network config). Now I can ping the IP of the printer and on Linux i can print to it, however when jumping on HP-UX it will not print. if anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated.

Re: printer on network

How did you configure the printer on HP-UX? Using Sam? Did you tell Sam it was a JetDirect printer? Can you telnet to the printer from the HP-UX system? (You should be able to if it is a JetDirect.)

We have an HP2100N which I configured with Sam on HP-UX 10.20 with little difficulty as I recall.

Re: printer on network

What do you get if you do an 'lpstat -o printername'? Is the printer enabled? Do you get any error messages when you try to print to the printer via lp?

Re: printer on network

hi,

try troubleshooting by doing the following:

# lpstat
connection to it1 is down

: : ready and waiting
no entries
# lpstat -p|grep disabled
printer disabled since Aug 19 08:09 -

Re: printer on network

Thank you all for such quick responses. Well i can telnet to the printer, lpstat shows that its not a destination (so thats something). I will work on it further appreciate your help.

Re: printer on network

If lpstat is not showing it as a destination it sounds like it did not get configured correctly via the JetDirect software.

Try running jetadmin and configure the printer again and see what happens.
