printer problem

Hi all

I have more than 600 printers configured in the server running hpux 11.23. The scheduler is not running now
rd: /etc/lp : lpstat -r
scheduler is not running

I tried lpshut and lpsched but again while checking the status of scheduler it is showing the above message.
tried with sam. It again start the spooler but after refreshing the window it is showing stopped status. no schedlock file found.
What could be the problem. The busisiness is standstill now.
Please advise.
Also there is a message in /var/adm/lp/log that"
lpsched: fork failed in main scheduler"

thanks in advance

Re: printer problem

Hi:

A 'fork' failure can mean you need to increase the value of 'nproc' in your kernel.

You can use 'glance' and toggle the "table" view to monitor 'nproc', or you can look at the column headed "proc-sz' in 'sar -v' output.

Regards!

Re: printer problem

After you modify nproc, do lpshut, then

ps -ef | grep lp

for any outstanding print processes that did not get shut down. Manually kill any left over processes, then do your lpsched
