Printing and Plotting

How do I setup Printing and Plotting on a J6000 workstation? We have a HP Plotter connected to our network that I would like to connect too. Also we have some Black and white Konica Printers I would like to use also.
Can anyone help me get started?

Re: Printing and Plotting

The really really simple way is to run "sam" and select printers and plotters.

It's quite a simple job, particularly if they are network connected. On the other hand, if you have other systems printing to these devices it's best to set up the print queue on one machine and all other machines using remote printing to the first machine.

Re: Printing and Plotting

Thanks for your response, I have gotten that far. I am trying to "add Network-based printer/plotter from the SAM and I am getting the error message "The HP Jetdirect printer software is not installed on your system (neither the command "/opt/hpnpl/admin/hppi", nor the command "/opt/hpnp/admin/jetadmin" exists). Therefore ,it is not possible to add a printer that is connected to an HP JetDirect interface. Were do I get HP Jetdirect software? and how do I configure it?

Re: Printing and Plotting

You'll need to get hppi from the downloads section of this site.

Re: Printing and Plotting

I installed the Software, this step is done, everything looks good. see below.
-------------------------------------------
Please enter a selection: 1

The HP JetDirect Printer Installer for UNIX (E.10.34) is installed.

Software verification passed.

Press the return key to continue ...
-------------------------------------------

The problem is when I try to run a test page I can not get it to plot. How can I troubleshoot this problem?

Re: Printing and Plotting

This is the error message I get when I try to print.

Error Output (stderr) FROM COMMAND "/USR/BIN/LP -DHPPLOTER /VAR/TMP/samMEAa06663" :
/usr/bin/lp: destination "HPPLOTTER" non-existent.

Do anyone have information on this error?

Re: Printing and Plotting

Hi Tom,

you should check if you have hpplotter in your /etc/hosts. Then try a ping to hpplotter.

Re: Printing and Plotting

Looks like you haven't set the hpplotter up as a printer yet. Now you have the software and are sure you can ping the printer try setting it up in SAM.

"lpstat -t" will show if the printer exists and is enabled and is accepting connection.

Re: Printing and Plotting

I can ping the plotter with the IP address and the name (HPPOTTER). The Print Spooler is Running. But,,

When I go into a text editor and click "print" I get this error message "An X Print server for HPPLOTTER could not be found.
