Printing compressed

Ok... I've worked with HP-UX, JetDirect print servers, and HP printers for quite a few years now, but I've never seen anything like what is being reported from one of our customers after they were migrated to a new rp2430.

They have a couple of LaserJets (a 4+ and a 4050 that I know are exhibiting the problem) that are only printing compressed text. The interface file is the same as it was on the old system (and all of the other systems we support). Our support people have tried their documented procedures for turning off compressed printing in the interface file. We even installed a new test queue with the JetDirect software to no avail. I know that if the printer itself is set to print a certain pitch at the panel, it will use that font for ASCII files by default, but adding pitch options at the command line has no effect either... it still prints compressed text.

I'm confused. Any ideas?
