printing to remote NT queue

printing to remote NT queue

we've set up remote print queues on HPUX to point to NT queues, we can print to the printer using lp. The limitation we're facing is that we can only print normal-sized font, portrait, etc. In other words, all Unix/lp print options are ignored.

It's easy to see by comparing print queue files in /etc/lp/interface why this is the case - it simply doesn't allow for "-o" options to lp (or ignores them, more accurately, because it uses rlp w/ a limited and different set of print options). What I'd like to do is be able to do "lp -d -oc -olandscape" to print compressed, landscape, to a remote NT print queue.

Re: printing to remote NT queue

Hi,

This is limitation with lpd , that is unix cannot send complex option to NT , then some -o option will be ignore.

Re: printing to remote NT queue

Think you have bad luck here. The lpd Service is pretty limitated. Most of the options known to HP-UX printerqueues are ignored.

You may consider using a printer server (like JetDirect) to connect the printer directly to the network.

This is more reliable and gives you all the options you need on HP-UX and Windows.

Hope this helps.
