problem setting term type on console

I have an 11i system with an HP ascii console set to vt100 emulation mode. When I login using any valid ID, the TERM variable gets set to "160". This is true whether I use ttytype -s -a or tset -s -Q in the /etc/profile. This appers to only be a problem on the console, as I can connect using Windows' telnet command or using exceed's xterm and telnet processes.

Has anyone seen this before? I even explicitly set the console's answerback string to vt100 in the setup, but that didn't make a difference.

TIA
