Problem with power cable redundancy!!

Hello All,

If we remove the main input to the first power supply and check the syslog.log power failure message comes . but if again restore the power then no event message is getting generated in syslog.log file.

Is this a valid behaviour?? Or should we get any messages??

Regards,
Amit

I agree that a power restored message would be nice, but what happens when you pull the power a 2nd time. Is a 2nd power failure message good enough to prove that power was restored?

Re: Problem with power cable redundancy!!

Hello,

Yes, i do get the power failure message each and every time i unplug the power cable.

But i want to know whether there is any message thrown by HP in syslog if we restore the power cables.

Re: Problem with power cable redundancy!!

Consider this: If power is lost, your action is required!
After fixing this issue (normally not fixed by itself), you can check the status with MP or SMH.

Hope this helps!

Re: Problem with power cable redundancy!!

Power supply failure messages are generated by the Management Processor (or by IPMI, if there is no MP in some hardware models) at the hardware level.

The diagnostic daemons will relay only important MP messages to syslog. A power supply failure is certainly a critical message, so it is relayed; but "power supply restored" is a non-critical message and not relayed by default. If you view the MP log (SL command in the MP main menu), you will see both "power failure" and "power restored" messages.
