Problems installing Jetadmin Software

I have downloaded Jetadmin Software from the HP site. It is a .sd file. When I run swinstall, I am getting errors. I am attaching the info in the swagent log. Is there something wrong with the downloaded file that is causing the problem?

Any help that you could give me would be greatly appreciated!

Did you use binary mode when you ftped the .SD file from your PC to the unix server .

At this point you should avoid downloading jetadmin and go with jetdirect instead, jetadmin is going off of support at the end of 2002 or early 2003.

I just recently converted all my printers from jetadmin to jetdirect and the interface for jetdirect is much better.

Just a recommendation.

I installed the newer version. The Unix machine that I installed this on didn't have jetadmin on it at all.

I have another machine that I have already used Jetadmin to install all the printers. If I want to upgrade, will I have to set all of those printers up again with the new software? Also, can I just install the newer software on the system without removing the old Jetadmin software?

You should be able to just install the new stuff, but before you begin, make sure you get a good make_tape_recovery. If make_tape_recovery is not on your system, get a copy of it here:

I can't answer the question if you will need to RE-setup your printers or not, sorry, but maybe someone else can.

The newer JetDirect software comes with a 'transferqueue' utility that will convert existing JetAdmin queues into JetDirect queues. After you install the JetDirect software, examine the file /opt/hpnpl/TRANSFER.UNX; it will guide you through the very easy process.
