problems with netscape fontsets

Another question today:

When I open netscape I get the messages:

Gdk-WARNING **: Missing charsets in FontSet creation

Gdk-WARNING **: HP-ROMAN8

Gdk-WARNING **: HP-ROMAN8

How can I fix this?

Thanks very much for some hints.

Best regards,

Oliver

Re: problems with netscape fontsets

On what is netscape running on a PC or a workstation. I ask because roman8 is the default charset under X (unless the PC doesn't have access to the hpux fonts perhaps ?)

Version of netscape ?

xset -q ?

xrdb -1 ?

contents of /var/dt/Xerrors ?

Whats your default locale ? Try setting it to an *.iso88591 setting prior to starting Netscape

just some ideas ......

Re: problems with netscape fontsets

Dear Alex,

thank you very much for jumping into my question.

I run my netscape on a HP C3600 WS with Hpux 11.i TCOE.

My netscape version is Mozilla 5.0/Netscape 7.0.

How can I set my locale to iso... (this is new for me, I only did it once and forgot it)?

Thanks for further help.

Best regards,

Oliver

Re: problems with netscape fontsets

It's more of a test to try and isolate the root cause .... from the CDE front panel -> options -> Language ->

Re: problems with netscape fontsets

Sorry, but I do not find a language selection. Where exactly do you find the CDE front panel (I tried klicks with right mouse button to the terminals, to the desktop, tried the session settings in the menubar below).

It woul be very nice if we trz it again.

Thanks in advance,

Re: problems with netscape fontsets

Thanks, I indeed found it. And with this I found another hint for my problems: These messages mentioned above do only appear if I log in via ssh from a linux SuSe 8.0 maschine. The messages I posted are from the terminal on the hpux maschine. Do you have an idea for my problem an this basis?

Thanks and by, by,

Re: problems with netscape fontsets

try setting xfs up on the hpux system and using xset +fp to add the fontserver address to the Linux Xserver prior to running netscape.

Re: problems with netscape fontsets

As Alex mentioned, always setup HP-UX to be a font server (SAM can do this), then on your Xwindow systems, tell the Xwindow system to use the HP-UX box as a font server. There are thousands of fonts and billions of potential incompatibility issues between the Xwindows server (the display) and the client (Netscape and HP-UX in this case).
