Processor addition/speed

I replaced 6 360mhz processors with 460's and HPUX is still reporting the speed as 360. Did I miss something? Am I supposed to change something to tell the OS about the higher speed?

I'm running 11.00. Is this a bug? What gives?

Re: Processor addition/speed

What type of machine? Some machines have dip switches on the mother board that tell the system what speed the processors are.

Re: Processor addition/speed

One is an l1000 and the other is a l2000

Thank for such a fast repsonse.

Re: Processor addition/speed

Of course they aren't 460's. 440's.

Re: Processor addition/speed

If you are referring to PA-8500 CPUs at 440MHz (NOT 460MHz), then yes they are supported. Make sure the CPUs and their support modules are installed in the proper order/sequence.

~hope it helps

Re: Processor addition/speed

Can you offer more info?

Proper order? Sequence? I took out the slower processors and put the faster in. I can't see how to to it any other way.

Re: Processor addition/speed

I do have both control units. The machines are performing great and sar -Mu is seeing all four. I went from two to four on the 2000 and upgraded the 1000.

Another question.

The 2000 and 1000 look the same internally. Both have room for 4 proc and plenty of mem slots and controllers, yet the 1000 won't take 4 processors and the mother board has room for them. What the?

Re: Processor addition/speed

The L1000 is firmware limited to 2 processors and 4GB RAM. There is also a limit on the PCI slots that are available for use.

The L2000 can use all 4 processor slots and have 8GB of RAM.

Re: Processor addition/speed

the l1000/l2000 have (or had) switches to tell the board how fast the processors were. NOTE: correct switch settings varied w/ rev level of the board involved.

Re: Processor addition/speed

Yes. It was DIP switches. Thanks
