Progress 8.3 Installation
Hi,
I new to HP UX. I have to install Progress version 8.3 on HP UX 10.2 (Am I outdated or what. Can someone tell me the location where I can find a detailed installation guide for Progress 8.3 on HP UX.
I can't seem to find it at the progress site or anywhere else.
Cheers.
Joe

Re: Progress 8.3 Installation
All I could find was the install guide for progress ver 9 on unix...
Have you checked the install CD for documentation, either a README or any .PDF files? I'd hope they would have something on the CD that would help.
I've never worked w/ it myself, so I'm of little help right now.

Re: Progress 8.3 Installation
Hi Joe,
There should be a manual that came with the cd, that has the instructions for all the different unix os's. From memory the most important things are:
use the -o cdcase option when mounting the cd
don't cd to the directory that you mounted the cd on, for example if it's on /cdrom then type /cdrom/install to install. (if you don't have the manual you may not have the serial number and activation codes, if not you're going to need to contact progress (at which time you could get the manual!)
Don't run the install on a hp console (this isn't in the manual) It is extremely slow, telnet in to the box if possible.
when asked if you want to install the scripts to /bin say no! (also not in the manual) they will then be installed to the dlc directory.
You will probably want to add the install dir (I choose to install to /opt/dlc83x (where x is the version letter, rather than the default of /usr/dlc) to the path.
You will probably need to track down an administration guide and administration reference manual.
good luck :-)
Regards,
Tony.

Re: Progress 8.3 Installation
Yeah what Tony said. Install script on the CD is quite straight-forward if the CD is mounted with the right switches as Tony described. Agree on saying 'no' to installing scripts. They'll be put into the /dlc directory instead and you can set a path to it; best to leave /bin alone.
