qserver spinning
One issue I am facing is that a lot of the time is that by the time the problem is fixed root cause is not possible. Today on a a D370 9000 (ver of openspool is B.01.40) the qserver was spinning. Sys admin guys recycled openspool and this resolved. Anyone have any ideas what may cause this ?? No errors in PdLog2. I was thinking maybe a device is having an issue ?
Any ideas ???

Re: qserver spinning
I agrre wit6h you that once the problem is removed the root cause is harder to find.
I assume by "qserver spinning" you mean that it was consuming a lot of resources although nothing was printing ?
I doubt it has to do with device problem. It is actually more likely that there comes to some printing problem, but in that case you would rather got some device server "spinning".
The general practice that I recommend for qserver/devserver is that
every few weeks you do this
simple "cleaning" of OpenSpool status files :
npstat -E > /tmp/savebindings
npadmin -i -A
npadmin -S
$ chmod +x /tmp/savebindings
$ /tmp/savebindings
Cheers,
Denis

Re: qserver spinning
I've seen a few things cause this problem in the past, including paper jams and buffer overflows from big print jobs on the printers.
Usually always happens on those old laserjets, not so much on the 2563c's that you've got.
You cant control what happens (physically)at the depot end which is why it was never resolved.
Good Luck
George

Re: qserver spinning
Very true, however we are phasing the 2563s out soon and come to think of it openspool too. But this is only happening on one site, odd.
Also RCA is a big no no.

Re: qserver spinning
Is it connected using a jetdirect card/box or dtc?
They used to be a couple that were directly connected to users pc's, which were used as the print server. Pain when they forgot NOT to switch there pc off!
