question about upgrading BIND

Hi,
My security script is telling me that I should install Bind 4.9.7 components in patch PHNE_28449.. I currently have installed upgrade-bind812 1.4 bind 8.1.2 special release upgrade ..
Should I uninstall this and then install the 4.9.7 component patch? (It won't let me install the depot because it says I have a latter version of Bind installed)..

thanks for any help you can give me..

Re: question about upgrading BIND

John,

you should not consider going back to BIND 4 but rather upgrade to BIND 9, or ignore the message about/and PHNE_28449

Re: question about upgrading BIND

Hi john

This may be helpful.

"BIND 4 is officially deprecated. You should only be using this version of BIND if you absolutely need to. No new versions of BIND 4 are scheduled to be released unless a serious bug or security issue surfaces.
If you cannot upgrade to BIND 9 or BIND 8 for whatever reason we strongly recommend you upgrade to BIND 4.9.11. Prior versions have bugs and security issues."

I copied this from the Bind website. I hope that helps.

Re: question about upgrading BIND

That patch keeps showing up on my security checks. I believe it fixes things other than BIND.

I finally got tired of it, installed the patch, which as I recall went in, even though I'm at BIND 9.2

My recommendation is to install the patch if the warning annoys you and go with BIND 9.2 Its free from software.hp.com

Re: question about upgrading BIND

I went ahead and installed bind 9.2, seemed to install easily once I removed the 8.1.2 version..
thanks for your help!
