Question for Clay

Clay,

How do you setup your "lifeboat" scenario? Is this a third disk that you mv everything to?

If you can, what are you procedures you use to accomplish this? This is a great idea, and one that i want to test on our test system.

thanks,

Chris

Re: Question for Clay

Hi Chris,

It's nothing fancy at all. You use dd to copy every block from the disks which make up vg00 to another group of identical disks. Obviously, vg00 could comprise 1 disk. I've attached a working example just make sure that you alter the SRC and DEST arrays to match your box. It's best to do this at a time when the system is realatively quiet. In my case, I do it on my boxes at 0300 on Sundays. The machine will probably do a fcsk since the filesystems were not cleanly unmounted but I've never had this to fail me.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
