Raw device limit

Hi all,

SYBASE DBA want me to create for him 36GB raw data device.
Document Id: UNX1010154 says that applications in HP-UX 10.10 that access device
s directly are limited to 4GB.
Is the same limit apply to applications in HP-UX 10.20 and HP-UX 11.00?
Where does this limit come from? I can create Logical Volume >100G - isn't it ra
w data device?

Thanks
Troy.

Re: Raw device limit

Hi Rita,

Thanks for the information! One more question:
Is that mean that the Application ( SYBASE)
will be able to use 128GB raw partition on HP-UX 10.20?

Re: Raw device limit

Hi Troyan,

For HPUX 10.20 or later, the per disk device limit of Sybase 11.9.x is 32GB. So, for the 128GB of storage that are giving to your dba, he could made FOUR Sybase disks out of it. In Sybase, having more than one disk devices is good practice because the data and log devices got to be separate for performance optimization.

Re: Raw device limit

Follow the link below,

http://manuals.sybase.com/onlinebooks/group-as/asp1192e/aseinhp

Look under Ch.2 Installation Requirements -> Adaptive Server Specification, through there you see almost all Sybase limits.

Hope this help.

Philip
