rc.log file

Is "rc" an acronym - if so what is the meaning?

Re: rc.log file

Hi Robert:

I believe that 'rc' stands for "re-configuration". '/sbin/rc' is the general purpose resequencer script (see 'man 1M rc') and is at the heart of "re-configuring" your system as run-levels change.

Run Commands
You can man rc to get details.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: rc.log file

Hi again:

Yup, Clay's right the more I think about it -- it's "run levels" that that are changing, so "run control" or "run commands" would be correct.

Re: rc.log file

Hi James, I pulled the answer from one of my old AT&T (circa 1984) UNIX manuals; I don't think you can get any more definitive than that.
