rdist problem

Hello

I have a problem with rdist.
A script startes at 20:00 an runs perfect.
Tonight at 20:02 the following messages is written to /var/adm/syslog (for 15 different files)
Oct 18 14:02:28 sigma2 rdist[27202]: sigma: LOCAL ERROR: Unexpected input from server: "rcmd: connect: sigmazv: Connection timed out".
Can someone tell me, why the time is different ?
What can it mean: unexpected event ... connection timed out.
The was no problem with the sigmazv-server or the ports / switches.
Thanks
Ralf

Re: rdist problem

Do you see any errors in dmesg/syslog around the same time.

Re: rdist problem

no no errors
only an other timestamp
look: 14:02:28 instead of 20:02:28

Re: rdist problem

rcmd connection times out makes me thing that there might have been problem with network or the connectivity.

netfmt /var/adm/nettl.LOGxx
lanadmin -g "nm_id of nic"

Re: rdist problem

This error can be caused when the rdist client receives unexpected data (for example, a login banner) from the server.

In this case the timeout is not related to a network problem.

Try using the same transport that your rdist is using (for the rdist packaged with HPUX it is remsh; for newer versions of rdist the transport can be ssh) to create a session on the server. This way you may be able to discover the "unexpected input".
