rds at 100%CPU using glance

OS: HPUX11i
Dataprotector 5.10 (installed with the recent DP patches)

even without any backup session running, rds is reporting at 100% cpu utilization. This is being monitored using glance. please advise. thanks

Hi,

If no backups are running it sound to much, you can try to restart the proces, but also in our server (N4000), it take much CPU time 76% with backups running.

You should also see the process using top.

Hi

Sounds daft but I read that
maxfiles_lim higher than 32767 used to cause this.

Maybe you have the same problem.

What is you kernel configuration.

Re: rds at 100%CPU using glance

Hello Isralyn Manalac,

I have exacty the same problem with DP5.1, but the HP-UX is version 11.0. It's been months now that some backups freeze for no apparent reason and the only clue is rds nearly at 100% CPU (using glance !). We've upgraded, patched and changed tape library without success.

You're not alone ...

Re: rds at 100%CPU using glance

Hi,

Do you get a similar value with top ? This is a known "bug", the reported value is not correct. If you don't have any I/O activity when DP is idle you don't need to worry.

Leif is right. The problem is fixed with:

PHKL_29198:
( SR:8606297426 CR:JAGae60929 )
top(1) shows inflated CPU usage for a process with detached threads.

Re: rds at 100%CPU using glance

Oooops, sorry. Correct... "using glance". Hmm, I'm not aware of any known HP-UX or Glance problem causing that.

Sounds more like a Raima DB problem then... rds looping in user space. Restarting DP should help for some time. However, patching DP could be of help also. Otherwise log a call with your local response center.

Best regards...
