what are the reasons for a single print queue(HP colour LJ 5550) getting disabled.

check ps -ef | grep lpsched, see if there is a multiple daemon running ? kill them and restart the spooler

check the log var/adm/lp/lp.log
When you kill lpscheduler, file /var/spool/lp/SCHEDLOCK will not be get deleted.You need to manually delete that start lpsckeduler.

You should also look into possibilities of faulty network connection to the printer/print server host.
