Re: Reboot Again

I'd have a look in you /var/adm/sw/swinstall and swagent logs for infor related to the software dependencies errors

The patch suggest no dependancies but has WARNINGs..

http://europe-support.external.hp.com/wpsl/bin/doc.pl/screen=wpslDisplayPatch/sid=d2bda8b9087560bad6?PATCH_PATH=/patches_with_warnings/hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHKL_25021&HW=800&OS=11.00#patchdependencies

Recall it is for 11.00, you are on an 11.00 server right? uname -a

Did you already install the QPKs from software.hp.com?

Bill

Re: Reboot Again

Hi Venkat:

The syslog.log file shows the install failed because of dependencies. Did you install the dependency patches too ?

When you download any patch, click on the dependency menu and find out those patches too. You have to install these patches when you apply the base patch.

Re: Reboot Again

The reboot is a must to update the kernel modified by the patch.

Looks like you need to resolve one dependency as well.

Re: Reboot Again

Hi venkat:

Did you check for any hardware errors ? any HPMC errors ? You can check the hardware with stm tools. Also if you get a crash dump, then you can send it for analysis.

Also you can try loading the latest QPK and HWE patches from the support plus media or from HP ITRC site. Do you have any errors in the /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log file ?

Re: Reboot Again

Hi Venkat:

The swlist shows the patches are little old. Download the latest one - March 2002, both QPK and HWE and install it.

Also when getting the above swinstall errors ( dependency cannot be resolved) you can set the option "enforce_dependencies=false" ; however it is not recommended. You can set this option either in the swinstall menu or in command line:

# swinstall x enforce_dependencies=false ...

Re: Reboot Again

There ARE NO dependancies for that patch... there is a different problem such as kernel bits or something like that..

getconf KERNEL_BITS

should say 64

Re: Reboot Again

This is not good...Do you know of the compliance of HP-UX 11.I to Forte?

Re: Reboot Again

cat /var/adm/sw/needs_config

swlist -l fileset -a state

The patch may have installed correctly, but another patch may not have, causing the build failure.

Re: Reboot Again

Hi Venkat:

You had problems starting the named daemon ( in rc.log and syslog.log files). Did you configure it properly ? How do you resolve the names ?

Re: Reboot Again

Hi Venkat:

Two options:

1) Edit /etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs file and put 'NAMED=0' instead of 1. Read the file description for more details.

2) Rename the /sbin/rcX.d/ ... start and kill scripts. eg:

# mv /sbin/rc2.d/S370named /sbin/rc2.d/s370named

See man named for more details.

Re: Reboot Again

Hi Shiju,

I've edit namesvrs file i've changed 1 to 0.Do u think reboot and panic happens because of named problem.

Re: Reboot Again

Hi Venkat:

NO. I don't think the system will panic and reboot if the named is enabled or disabled. Since I saw this error in the log files, I thought of bringing in to your attention. Once you set the named=0, it will not start the daemon from next reboot.

Did you install the latest patches to the system ?
