Receiving Netbackup Failures

Curious to know what causes netbackup failures?

That depends entirely on what type of failure.

Possibilities that come to mind:

Network issues
Agent not running on client to be backed up
Tape issues
Tape drive issues
Backup server issues

We really need a whole lot more details to help you any better.

error code 54 is network connectivity.

Veritas 3.4 uses /etc/hosts networking no matter what settings you have in nsswtich.conf

We're testing an upgrade to 5.0 now and I'm sure thats going to be fun.

we use netbackup datacentre, various problems we have are:

Tape library offline

Bad media

Client agent not running

backup won't start outside window

only partial backup due to files being open

bad network.

I've just come accross an issue where the survey utility interfered with the backup causing NetBackup Status Code: 84, media write error. The system's device driver returns an I/O error, so netbackup fails.
We did a test last night disabling survey, everything went on OK. Now to find out if there's a patch/fix ...
