Re: Remote access printing software

How would that work through the RAS?

Re: Remote access printing software

You do not need to have the SW for doing this. You can do by configuring it as a remote printer. Look at the link below about how to configure the printer.

Re: Remote access printing software

Hello,

I do not have the solution for you, but
I do not think that Jetdirect is the solution
here.
Jetdirect is software for sending printjobs
to an HP-printer with its own network-interface.

I think there was a similar question on
the Forum just a few days ago, so you could
do a search there.

Re: Remote access printing software

Hi,

As Olav is saying, you can use Jetdirect / Jetadmin to print from a hp server to a network hp printer connected directly to the network. To print to a printer connected to a PC, you have to configure the printer on the PC and then configure the printer as a remote printer on the hp server. The procedure is in the link i had posted above.

Hope this helps.

Re: Remote access printing software

Actually this should not be too difficult. A RAS gives you a TCP/IP connection. You can then set this up to be a REMOTE printer NOT a network printer. Make sure that the PC shares this printer.

The tricky part is that you don't always get the same IP address/hostname each time you access the RAS. You might have to set up a number of remote printers on your UNIX hosts since the IP address you are assigned is luck of the draw. I would at least make sure that they all use a common queue name on the PC end so that the only variable is the hostname.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Remote access printing software

I think you need nothing, just declare your printer as a remote printer (using SAM) and make sure that your UNIX box knows the PC's (if necessary add the PC name and IP adress in the /etc/hosts file).
We have network's printers declared on NT servers and there is no problem to use them with UNIX, I think that it will be the same with local printer.
If you have a firewall, you may have some trouble if ports aren't opened.

Re: Remote access printing software

ACS sees the problem - the RAS will not give me the same IP everytime, the hostname is not available / or variable.
