Remote print queue disabled

Remote print queue disabled

There is a remote print queue behavoir which I wonder if any of you have experience with.

Using SAM, I've setup a remote print queue on a HP-UX server running 11.23. The remote print server runs on a PC workstation. And the network connectivity between this HP-UX server and the remote print server is through a dial-up network.

If this remote print server is switched off, and someone submits a print job to this remote print queue, after a certain retries, this remote print queue will be automatically disabled.

To reactivate, I will have to ask someone to help switch on the remote print server and enable this remote print queue for the print job to be printed.

I wonder if this automatic disabling of print queue is a standard feature. Is there anything for me to check the behavoir such that it will keep trying to send instead of disabling itself?

Thanks and regards

Re: Remote print queue disabled

You might try the rlpstat command before submitting an lp job although how it will behave over a dial-up connection is questionable. Note: you should use lpstat to invoke rlpstat. Man lpstat, rlpstat for details.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Remote print queue disabled

There is nothing you can do except to fix the printer. It was disabled because your PC said it was disabled. The spooler will not keep trying. This is also true for locally connected printers and even HP JetDirect printers. You can use lpstat options to monitor the print queue(s) and then use enable to get it going again.
