Removing printers

Can the pstatus file be recreated? I'm having a problem removing printers. Error message states that the printer is non-existent. They show up in an lpstat. The printers have been deleted from the system, but still exist in the pstatus file.

Re: Removing printers

Hi,

Have you tried stopping and restarting lpsched?

Re: Removing printers

Hi again,

I did a search and found a thread that deals with this problem. Take a look and see if this helps:

Re: Removing printers

Well you can recreate or update the pstatus file but not directly. In your case the printer status is probably corrupted due to some files/dirs missing. Those files may be ..
-/usr/spool/lp/request/ recreate this dir if it's not there.
- /usr/spool/lp/member/ recreate (ie just "touch ") if it does not exist.
- /usr/spool/lp/interface/ same here.

Remember the above need to be owned by "lp". Once they are in place remove your printer ..
# lpshut
# lpadmin -x

Re: Removing printers

The /var/spool/lp/request/ directory was not owned by lp. When I changed this I was able to delete the printers.
Thanks for your help!
