Re: remsh doesnt work properly
Start by examining the manpages for 'hosts.equiv(4)'. When you meet these requirments describe what doesn't work for you. You have not given any details!
Regards!

Re: remsh doesnt work properly
I'd recommend that you look at the system log of both systems, /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log
Also, consider secure shell, which is based on openssh and provides encrypted authentication and data stream.
Much safer.

Re: remsh doesnt work properly
NOTE: The .rhosts file must be in the user's HOME directory. It must be owned by the user and the right must be 600 (rw for user, no other rights). The hostname in .rhosts must be resolvable by IP as well as hostname. A misconfigured DNS server will cause remsh to fail and ask for a password. To temporarily avoid the problem, put the hostname, the fully qualified hostname and the IP address for the incoming system in .rhosts on separate lines:
myname billh
myname.domain.net billh
12.34.56.78 billh
If remsh works OK now, DNS has problems, typically no reverse lookup records.

Re: remsh doesnt work properly
A dumb question deserves a dumb answer. Let's start with /stand/vmunix. If it's not there, remsh probably won't work perfectly.
Ditto for /etc/passwd, /etc/group, /etc/hosts, /usr/lib/lib*.so. ... and a herd of others. Moreover not only must the files be present but the mode, owner, and group are important as well. You should really learn to narrow the focus of your question and to supply your exact error messages. In any event, the remsh authication mechanism is well documented in the remshd man pages and that is where your quest should start.
