Replace Drive
In my server , the raid 5 with 3 hard drive are installed on the server , now , one of drive is failure that I will replace a new one , I know the system will rebuild the data to the new hard drive , but I still have the below query ,
1. the hard drive is hot plug supported , should I shutdown the server when rebuilding the server or keep it power on ?
2. when rebuilding , can I login to the server ?
3. any checking I need to do ? or any action I need to take ?
4. is it just simply replace , they will do anything for me ? thx.

Re: Replace Drive
Please give more info about your hardware and software configuration.
Since this is raid5, do you use VxVM (software raid) or a smartarray controller?
How about your server model and OS version?
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Replace Drive
Hi Nash11,
As per the raid concept you could be able to replace the disk drive online and raid controller can rebuild. But Disk and the Disk enclosure should support the Hot pluggable option.
If could able to share some more details about server, raid controller, storage enclosure , and the setup we will be able to share our thoughts.
regards
Manoharan
