rmap ovflo

Hello,

We have K220 servers with HPUX 10.20.
They all have database oracle on them.
Lately I am getting many error massages in
syslog.log file like that:

Jul 3 14:00:53 hp70 vmunix: sysmap: rmap ovflo, lost [30240l,30241l)

Do you know what is causing these massages, and how I can fix it ?

This is bascially showing a small memory leak and the fragmenting of the kernel's virtual memory. Many times it can just be ignored. Possible solutions to this is installing the "line in the sand" patch and all it's dependencies (PHKL_16751 for 10.20 and PHKL_18453 for 11.0).

However, this can often be fixed by increasing the nproc parameter. The size of the rmap is defined to be 800 or 2*nproc when nproc > 400. So increasing nproc will increase the size of the rmap and lessen the effects of the fragmentation problems.
