Root Password
I have a HP-UX system and have forgot the root password.
I am new to UNIX and really need to get this sorted as I am keen to learn it.
Your help will be much appreciated.
It is a home system, single machine, HP Apollo mopdel 715/50.
I am running HP-UX version 11.11 on it which cam pre-installed.

Main idea is to boot into single user mode, mount /usr and change root password.

2) At the BOOT_ADMIN>, type:
bo pri isl
and Y to ISL.
3) At the ISL>, type:
hpux -is
to goto Single User-mode (password not required).
4) At the command prompt, use 'passwd' to enter new password for root.

1. When the workstation is coming up, press the ESCAPE key. Choose
one of the following:
b) Boot from specified device
s) Search for bootable devices
a) Enter Boot Administration mode
x) Exit and continue boot sequence
?) Help
2. Boot the ISL (Initial Secondary Loader):
Select from menu: boot p0 ipl
Trying scsi.6.0 Boot path initialized. Attempting to load IPL.
Hard Booted.

3.From the ISL> prompt, type the following to boot single user mode:

At this point, the system is booted in single-user mode and has limited
functionality. Upon completion of single-user tasks, select the desired
init state to restart the rest of the system.
