RS232 Terminal Server
with all those devices, that may/need to have a serial console, we are looking to use a console server.
How do you deal with all those routers / switches / servers, when network connection is gone, and going there is no option because of the distance ?
You can't attach a console to each of them. HPs Web-Console is too expensive in my eyes for a simple router or switch.
Anybody using a Cyclades 32-port server TS2000 or a compareable product ?
Thanks for input
Volker

Re: RS232 Terminal Server
the digi is a 16 port, we have assinged it an ip address so we can telnet to the digi, then on 15 of the ports we have run straigt through cat5 cables fron one digi port to a rj45-9pin adapter. then we do a :
telnet hpconsole 2001 (telnet
we also used the port 16 to connect a console to the digi for admin, connecting directly to the servers local to the digi.
Let me know if you want some more specific info.

Re: RS232 Terminal Server
yes , the Cyclades works similar usind ports 7001-7032. However, there are some minor bugs, but this thing is cheap.
You have an URL describing this digi thing ?

Re: RS232 Terminal Server
we use the port sever II, our comm department uses alot of these for our various branches accross the nation, so we stole one and addapted it for our needs, but it does what it needs to and its pretty easy to setup. Good Luck, and let me know if you have any question, I'll do what I, or I'll harass the comm guys.
