Running Java on HP-UX 11i

I,m trying to install a UPS application, however this application is Java bean, apparently I don't have Java installed in machine. Where can I get this? What do I need to do to run this application? Help please!

Re: Running Java on HP-UX 11i

Jave can be downloaded for FREE from here:

http://www.hp.com/products1/unix/java/

Without knowing more about the application, I'm afraid I can't help you with what you need to run it.

Re: Running Java on HP-UX 11i

I had the following choices under the
SDK & RTE 1.4:

1. Java Out of the box utility

2. Java Runtime plug-in 1.4 downloads

Which one do I need, My guess is #1, think #2 is a broswer utility but I just want to be sure.

Also After downloading #1 it seems to be very
small in size (9KB) is this normal?

I have also downloaded PHCO_29109.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Running Java on HP-UX 11i

Abbey,
Java out of the box utility is to configure the machine suitable for running large java applications and not not java itself.

If you want java, pick it up from here.
http://www.hp.com/products1/unix/java/java2/sdkrte14/downloads/license_sdk_1.4.1.03.html

For your problem, when you say bean, do you mean java bean? It requires an application server (minimal) space to run on. Hope I havnt misunderstood your question.

Re: Running Java on HP-UX 11i

You are correct about options 1 and 2. Almost any kind of java installation requires both. The plugins let you browse web sites with a browser based on your HP-Ux box. This is useful in getting patches and such.

Be advised that as of my last check, Oracle had not certified java 1.4 with its product line. This was a few months ago and may have changed, but understand the following:

1) You can run multiple versions of java on your box without problem.
2) Oracle is serious when they don't certify something, don't think it will work, it will not.
