sam_exec username

I have a usename on my HPUX 11.00 system named sam_exec that has a uid of 0. Can anyone tell me what this is for?

Thanks,
Dan

Re: sam_exec username

Dan,

This is strictly on off-the-wall theory:

Do you happen to use "restricted sam"? I'm guessing that, in order to allow your designated "restriced sam" user access to some root only commands, SAM uses this ID to masquerade as.

Re: sam_exec username

Hi,

This is for the remote execution of SAM. It uses this user to run SAM. If you don't use remote SAM, then you can delete that account.

Re: sam_exec username

Hey Guys, thanks for the quick response.

Pete, that was my guess but I couldn't confirm or disprove it. A search here for "sam_exec" gave no usable results.

Sridhar, you hit the nail on the head. With your input, I was able to confirm that setting up Remote SAM administration, through SAM, created the username in question.

Thanks Again!
