Samba error

When I try to connect to HP-Unix samba server from a win nt machine, I am getting the window to give user name and password. but After giving proper UN and passwd, am getting the error that this account is not authorized to login from this station.

In samba security is set as user.

Can you throw some light on this issue ?

Thanks in advance !!

Re: Samba error

hello pvr,
if you are using samba for hpux 10.2, then you have to add the user as samba user with smbpasswd -a command, prior to login from windows with that user name.
SYNTAX
#smbpasswd -a UN password

I haven't checked it in hpux11.0 and above.
maybe you will have to add that UN to some samba users file.I will try to get the information for you on hpux11.0

Re: Samba error

after this command
#smbpasswd -a UN password
enable the user
#smbpasswd -e UN
then it will ask for password.

Hope it should work at your it site also

Re: Samba error

If you have limited the connections only to some machines check the IP addresses and include the one of the machine you like to access the CIFS share.
It would help as well, if you could provide the smb.conf file.
Programing is fun.

Re: Samba error

The key to your problem is the error message phrase "account is not authorized to login from this station". This occurs due to workstation restrictions in the NT/2000 domain (regardless of whether the domain is local or network-wide). You need to add the Samba server to the list of valid (login) workstations. A more detailed explaination of the problem, and how to solve the problem are in the Technical Knowlege Base, ( http://www6.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/enterService.do ) search for Document id: NETCSKBRC00003133 and KBRC00011946
