Re: Samba problem

hi

You must see you have netbios enabled at
the windows side. For more information
on how setting up samba see the following
online book :

Re: Samba problem

you need to install the cifsserver from the application cd (or download from software.hp.com) on the unix server. This includes a graphical configuration kit which you start from your browser at http://localhost:901/ .Here you can control which files/directories windows users can access, +permissions. On the windows side I'm not sure, but if you are able to "map network drive", this should be ok. Just treat the unix server as any other windows server in this respect. Good luck!

Re: Samba problem

Hi

Don' t forget to the the ff for mapping drives:
On the Windows2000 machine start: RUN > regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > ControlSet001 > Services > lanmanworkstation >
parameters

Set enableplaintextpassword = 0x00000001

Reboot Windows machine.

Re: Samba problem

Hi,

There is a large amount of control over the Windows users access to files using CIFS/Samba - firstly they must authenticate. This can use your PDC or you can utilise a separate samba password file.

Secondly, you can restrict which users have access to a particular share, whether they have read/write or just read access, plus you can use the HPUX file permissions.

Darren.
